Mitten Songs

Mitten Curriculum

I was reading through the section on Mitten Songs and really like the Mittens on My Hands (sung to The Wheels on the Bus). I made up three additional verses:

The hat on my head covers my ears…
The scarf around my neck is oh so long…
The boots on my feet jump in the snow…

(Sung to the tune row, row, row your boat)
Warm, warm, warm and dry Mittens feel so nice So grab a pair in chilly air or in the snow and ice.

Three Little Kittens (tune-Three Blind Mice)
Three little kittens,
Three little kittens.
Lost their mittens,
Lost their mittens.
They all ran around with their tails in the air.
Looking for their mittens everywhere.
They found them hiding under the chair.
Those three little kittens,

Thumb in the thumb hole
Fingers all together
This is what we wear in
Cold and wintry weather.

Mittens Mittens for the snow time, when the world is white.

Mittens for my two hands, (hold up hands)
Mittens left & right (show left & right)
Mittens with a thumb place (show thumb)
Mittens warm and snug
Mittens make me feel like a bug inside a rug (hug self)

Give each child one mitten, (real ones or made out of construction paper) and hold up one mate as you sing or chant this song:

Who’s got a mitten like this one?
Who’s got a mitten like me?
Hold it up, let me see, who my partner will be!

Thumbs in the thumb place, Fingers all together.
This is the song we sing in mitten weather.
When it’s cold, it doesn’t matter whether,
Mittens are wool or made of finest leather.
Thumb in the thumb place, fingers all together!

The Mittens On My Hands (Tune: The Wheels on the Bus)
Words by: Daylene

The mittens on my hands
Keep me warm
Keep me warm
Keep me warm
The mittens on my hands
Keep me warm
All Winter long!
