Transportation Songs

Here’s a fun rhyme: Good for work on direction and sound contrasts.

This is a choo-choo train
(bend arm at elbow)
Puffing down the track.
(rotate arms in rhythm)
Now it’s going forward,
Now it’s going back.
(push arms in appropriate directions; continue rotating motion) Now the bell is ringing, (pull bell cord) Now the whistle blows (make sound) What a lot of noise it makes Everywhere it goes!
(cover ears)

Fingerplay–The Trip

Wash the car,
Make it shiny and bright.
Oh, what a sight!
Fill up the car,
With lots of gas.
Then we will go far.

To the Tune of Wheels on the Bus

The train on the track goes chug, chug, chug, Chug, chug, chug, Chug, chug, chug, The train on the track goes chug, chug, chug all through the day

Other verses:
The boat on the water goes toot
The car on the road goes beep
The race car on the track goes zoom
The airplane in the sky goes way up high

This is an action song I sing with my pre-schoolers they long it. “It’s Called I Love my Car..”

I love my car my car loves me I built my car in a factory, my little car goes beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep HONK. I love my boat my boat loves me I built my boat in a factory, my little boat goes toot toot toot and my little car goes beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep HONK.

Etc Etc.. The teacher has the children walk around the room in a circle and pretending their driving the vehicle. It’s also a memory game you need to remember the vehicles that were before in order. The children really love this.

I built my car..

I love my car my car loves me, I built my car in a factory, my little car goes beep, beep , beep, beep beep beep beep beep, honk

I love my motorcycle my motorcycle loves me, I built my motorcycle in a factory, my little motorcycle goes, vroom vroom vroom, and my little car goes beep, beep, beep, beep, beep beep beep beep honk

I love my plane my train my train loves me, I built my train in a factory, my little train goes toot toot toot,
and my little motorcycle goes vroom vroom vroom, and my little car goes beep beep beep beep beep beep honk

“keep singing the song using different vehicles and going backwards”

Twinkle Twinkle Little Start Daddy had a motor car..

Twinkle Twinkle Little Start
Daddy had a motor car push the button, pull the choke
off we go in a puff of smoke,
zoom zoom zoom zoom zoom zoom
zoom, zoom zoom zoom zoom zoom zoom zoom.

My 2 1/2 year old and I came up with different things to add to the traditional “The Wheels on the Bus” song and they love it. We sing:

1. Wheels go round and round
2. Rain on the windshield goes drip drop 3. Door goes open and shut 4. Money goes clink, clink, clink 5. Driver says “Move on back”
6. People go up and down
7. Babies go wah, wah, wah
8. Mommies go shh, shh, shh
9. Daddies say “I love you”
10. Horn goes beep, beep, beep
11. Wipers go swish, swish, swish

My kids also love being able to pick the order that it goes in.

Little Airplane

(Tune: Frere Jacques)

Little airplane, little airplane,
In the sky, in the sky,
I can see you soaring,
I can see you soaring,
Up so high,
Up so high.

I’m a little piece of tin
Nobody knows what shape I’m in
Got four wheels and a runnin’ board
Not a Chevy or a Ford
Honk, honk, rattle, rattle, crash, beep, beep
Honk, honk, rattle, rattle, crash, beep, beep

I have seen a number of versions of this song, but this is my favorite, and the most popular with our children. (to the tune : Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)

Twinkle Twinkle Traffic Light
Standing on the Corner Bright
Green means GO, we all know
Yellow means WAIT, even if you’re late
Red means STOP……
Twinkle Twinkle Traffic Light,
Standing on the Corner bright
