After reading all of the great ideas in this site, I decided I
would add something I have been doing at our graduation ceremonies for about ten years. I make a balloon archway using royal blue and white balloons (these are our school colors). The archway is used in the center of stage behind the children. The archway is made by tying helium filled balloons to fishing line. We use
about twenty balloons on the large archway. We make little balloon trees and set them all over the auditorium. The balloons in the balloon trees are helium filled and are also made by attaching them to fishing line. The decorations are beautiful and have become a tradition at our Preschool graduation ceremonies. It makes for a beautiful and exciting night that goes along with our graduation program. After the program is over, the balloon archway is cut and the balloons are given to the preschoolers as part of their gifts. In , I used silver, white, and royal blue balloons to celebrate the millennium year. This year will have a patriotic theme. I plan to make three archways using red balloons at the top, a white archway below, and then blue. The children will be marching in carrying small American flags. We will recite the pledge, our flag song, and sing “You’re A Grand Ole
Flag”. We wear beautiful caps and gowns that we order from Thomas Creative Apparel. The program consists of speaking parts, poems, nursery rhymes, and songs. Perfect attendance certificates are awarded and diplomas are given out. The parents provide a wonderful reception in the church fellowship hall. I have two nights of ceremonies to accommodate the crowd that attends. We have around people on each night. It is an event that this small town looks forward to!
We did a book this year on Children, Children what do you see, after reading the Brown Bear book. For Graduation we took slide pictures of each child and as each child’s picture was shone the children sang “Children, Children who do you see? I see Billy bob looking at me” to the tune of twinkle twinkle. The last picture was a class picture where the children sang ” teachers, teachers who do you see” and all the teachers responded we see Preschool Graduate looking at me. As the pictures were shone the children also came up to receive their preschool diploma’s. It was lovely.
For our preschool completion ceremony we taught the kids the words to “All you need is love” by the Beetles. The kids loved it and it went right along with our year long philosophy of friendship and love. lyrics: Nothing you can do that can’t be done Nothing you can sing that can’t be sung Nothing you can say, but you can learn how to play the game It’s Easy…
Nothing you can make that can’t be made No one you can save that can’t be saved Nothing you can do, but you can learn how to be you in time It’s easy…
All you need is love, all you need is love, all you need is love, love, love is all you need.
For our slide show presentation, we used the Ray Boltz song, “Always a Child in My Eyes”. It was a great tear-jerker! We also used your idea about giving the parents a flower at the end of the program. Again, not many dry eyes and lots of compliments! We will do it again next year. Thanks!
