Ocean Fun

With a shower curtain from a dept. store (Wal-Mart), cut the bottom of the ocean/sea picture and tack it around the water/sand table. Put the remainder of the curtain with fish and water life on a curtain rod and hang it on the wall above the table– you don’t have a shower curtain, you now have a sea/ocean world. Mine is so cute, I can’t wait to place it in the new classroom. I use the shelf under the table hidden by the curtain for storing the water/sand toys when not in use.

When my class was studying the beach we put “jewels” (beads or jewels purchased at dollar store) in the bottom. We covered this with sand. We added shovels and two treasure chests (also from the dollar store) and the children dug for buried treasure. They LOVED it.

The beginning of the year I made a Sponge Bob bulletin board. I used dark blue paper at the top and brown paper which I glued (with thinned out glue and a sponge type brush) sand to look like the bottom of the sea. In the middle I put a large picture of Sponge Bob with the saying “We Are Ready for Preschool!” Then I used clip art of various ocean animals and put the children’s names on them. I also took green tissue paper and rolled it to look like seaweed and stapled it to the brown paper.

Have a beach day where children come in their bathing suits, sunglasses, sandals, beach towels, floaties, etc. and fill a wading pool up with water and us as an INDOOR pool! Hang a beach ball from the ceiling and have fake sand on the ground! Hang a fake sun up! This is soo fun!
