Earth Day Snacks

Rice Krispie Earth Recipe

Basically, just your basic rice krispie squares recipe with food coloring added.

1/4 cup margarine

40 regular marshmallows

1/2 tsp. vanilla

6 cups rice krispies

green and blue food coloring

Melt margarine and marshmallows over medium heat in a large pot, stir in vanilla and rice krispies.

Divide into two bowls

Add green food coloring to one bowl and blue food coloring to the second.

Stir

Allow the children to take a scoop from the blue bowl and a scoop from the green bowl and mash them together in a ball (the earth).

Set the balls aside until completely cool.

For Earth Day we make Dirt Cups to eat. We use chocolate pudding, crushed Oreo cookies and hide gummi worms in it. The kids love to dig in their cups for worms.

Earth Cookies

You will need circular sugar cookies, frosting colored blue and green. Have children spread blue and green frosting on to sugar cookies so that they look like planet Earth.

Trail Mix The day before you make this have each child decorate a small paper bag. The next day make trail mix. You can use raisins, peanuts, sunflower seeds, M&M’s and cheerios or you can make up your own combination. About 4 or 5 choices are best. Put each item in a separate bowl, put a small tablespoon or coffee scoop in each one. Number each bowl. The number 3 with a picture of 3 spoons by the raisin bowl, the number 1 with a picture of 1 spoon by the m&m’s. The children go to each bowl and add whatever number to their bag. Three spoons of raisins, 1 spoon of m&ms, 2 spoons of sunflower seeds and 4 spoons of cheerios. After you make your Earth Day trail mix, go for a nature walk.
