Saguaro Cactus Painting (pronounced—–Saw-war-o)

Needed: Marbles, clean cans such as Pringles or the tall cheese ball cans, lids to the cans, saguaro cactus shapes cut out of heavy white construction paper that will fit inside the can, green paint.

Have the children put the marbles and a small spoonfull of the green paint into the can. Next, have the children put their cactus cut-outs into the can and put on the lid. Now……….shake, shake, shake the can! Pull out the cactus and see what happened!

Sand painting Have the children draw or paint with white glue on to heavy paper or cardboard. Place in a deep tray and have the children sift sand on top of the wet glue. Pull out the “sand painting” & let dry.

Have the children use red, pink ,purple, yellow chalk to make streaks on black paper like the sunset. You could then have the children glue on a couple of cactus.

Cut out a cactus and have the children glue on broken, green toothpicks for the thorns.
