Day and Night Songs


In the Nighttime (To the tune of “You Are my Sunshine”)

In the nighttime, yes, in the nighttime, I brush my teeth, and I wash my face. I wear my PJ’s, and get my blankie, and I say my prayers by my bed.

It is dark out, but the moon shines brightly, and all the stars are twinkling too. I know that God will protect and keep me, as I go to sleep in my bed.

(I use this for my preschoolers during their Nighttime unit. We do motions for each action.)


Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. golden sun, hiding behind a tree. These little children are asking you…to please come out so they can play with you! Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. golden Sun, please shine down on, please shine down on, please shine down on me!


The Nighttime Song (To the tune of “You Are my Sunshine”)

I post the words to the song as well as pictures of the nouns in the song so the children can read along.

This is the way we brush our teeth, brush our teeth, brush our teeth. This is the way we brush our teeth so early in the morning.

Repeat with other A.M. tasks, then with P.M. tasks substituting ….before I go to bed.


Run Along Home (tune unknown)

Now run along home and jump into bed Close your eyes and cover your head The very same thing I say unto you, You dream of me and I’ll dream of you.


Sky so Blue (Tune: Apple Tree)

Way up high in the sky so blue I say Mr. Sun come peeking through He’ll keep me warm all through the day And when the moon comes out he’ll go away.


This is a song I created for a unit on day and night for my classroom of Autistic kindergarteners. They loved it!

The Morning song (daytime- sung to the tune of “You are my Sunshine”)

In the morning, only the morning, I wake up happy, the sun is bright. I eat my breakfast, and put my clothes on, then I go to school on a bus.

I also used pictures and symbols for the nouns and verbs in the song.
