Clifford Art

This is a two day project. First we make our Clifford headbands, practicing cutting the oval, round or hear ears and staple onto a decorated head band, Tissue paper, painted, markers etc. After reading “Clifford’s First Day of School” each child wears their Clifford ears, get a black nose if they like, and then tip over a cup of yellow paint on a a large piece of paper and go for it!

Give each child one large red heart, 2 red dog ears (can be a second heart cut in half), 2 small wiggle eyes, and a small black heart (nose). Assemble so it looks like Clifford. Give kids markers to add Clifford’s mouth.

Have the kids finger-paint with red on a large sheet of white paper. When dry give each child one large black nose and a pair of large wiggle eyes (or make large construction paper eyes) and have them glue on their paper. Add a smile and you have a Clifford. Kids are amazed that they painted Clifford and parents think it’s cute, too.

Clifford the Big Red Dog! Trace a Clifford shape for kids to cut out and paint red. Or you could cut it out and then they could glue red tissue paper to him.

I take a picture of Clifford and let the children snip little pieces of red paper and glue them onto the Clifford shape.
