GOD CREATED THE STARS

Materials Needed: Foil star stickers Blue or black construction paper Glitter Glue

Give each child a piece of construction paper and several foil stars (I usually cut the page of foil stars into strips and give each child several strips; the children enjoy peeling the stickers off themselves). Allow the children to peel & stick their starts on the piece of construction paper. Have the children spread glue on other parts of their paper, and cover the glue with glitter. I usually write the caption, "God made the stars!" on each child's page.

For an art project on Creation, have the children decorate shoeboxes with various materials. On the top, title the box "God's Treasures". Then go on a nature walk with the children to collect things that God made. They can keep this box and add to the treasure collection with things they find at home. Be sure to tell them they should put a photo of themselves as one of God's treasures!

GOD MADE HEAT

Melting Hearts: newspaper, wax paper, crayon shavings, cut paper hearts, yarn and an iron.

Sprinkle some crayon shavings in the center of a piece of wax paper. Then loop a piece of yarn in half, and lay it in the middle of the paper with the looped end hanging off the edge of the wax paper. Layer with a paper heart and a few more crayon shavings. Cover all this with another piece of wax paper. Lay a piece of newspaper over the wax paper and press with the warm iron. When the papers are cool, cut around the melted crayon designs.

GOD CREATED FISH IN THE OCEAN

Aquarium Sun-Catcher: paper plates, clear contact paper, blue/silver glitter, construction paper, yarn.

Children cut sea creatures from construction paper. (I downloaded clip art fish and seahorses) While they are cutting, take the backing off one circle of adhesive clear contact paper, and apply it to the back of a paper plate with the center cut out. Make one paper plate for each child. Have children place their sea creatures on the sticky paper and sprinkle with glitter. Next, pull backing off of second adhesive circle and stick to the front of the plate, enclosing the sea creation. Punch a hole in the rim of the plate and string with yarn.

Dark and Light Art

Materials needed: masking tape, black paint, paintbrushes, sheets of 12"x18" white construction paper

Directions: Tear many pieces of various sizes of masking tape. Have the children place the tape in a random fashion all over their white sheet paper. When they have put as much tape on their paper as they want, have them paint the entire paper using the black paint. After the paint has dried, let them pull the tape off of their paper. They will have a black and white picture. Display these on a wall or a bulletin board entitled "God made dark and light."

Give children a lump of clay or playdough. Talk about the fact that it doesn't look like anything.(It's without shape and void). Allow children to make whatever they would llike out of the clay. Tie in to God shaping the earth out of nothingness and he liked what he made. Clay could be used to make little people, animals, trees, etc. when talking about the things God created.

Creation Mobile

Take a paper plate and paint it black on one side and yellow on the other side. Make stars and moon and glue to plate. Hang equal lengths of yarn around the outside of the paper plate. Attach to each piece one item of creation, clouds, flowers & trees, birds and fish, animals, and man. This will help children remember what God has created.
