Lucky Red Envelopes

Show the children pictures of lucky red envelopes with gold writing on them. Using red construction paper make red envelopes and paint them using gold paint. Send them home with a note for parents explaining that these envelopes are given to the children on new years day with money inside for them to spend. Read the book “Sam and the lucky money”.

Show your students pictures of dragons from different cultures. Explain that Chinese dragons are seen as helpful beings. Have students cut hundreds of large oval scales from bulletin board and scrap paper. Create a dragon head on top of a laundry basket or a box. Make a long body from bulletin board paper. Cover the body with scales. Have as many students as possible get under the body and move around the school in a dragon dance.
