Ant Songs

Song Tune: (This is the way we wash our clothes)
This the is way we dig for ants, dig for ants, dig for ants. (repeat)
This is the way we dig for ants
Let’s find an ant.

(children use toy shovels in a box filled with dirt and plastic ants as they pretend they are searching)

To go along with “The Ants Go Marching” song, have students make counting books using a page for each verse. On the first page, they make “one” thumbprint ant (or however you chose to make an ant). If they are able, they could even write the numeral 1. Use their books as they sing the song.

The Ants Go Marching
(Traditional)

The ants go marching one by one
Hoorah, hoorah
The ants go marching one by one
Hoorah, hoorah
The ants go marching one by one
The little one stops to suck his thumb
And they all go marching
Down to the ground
To get out of the rain
Boom Boom Boom

The ants go marching two by two
Hoorah, hoorah
The ants go marching two by two
Hoorah, hoorah
The ants go marching two by two
The little one stops to tie his shoe
And they all go marching
Down to the ground
To get out of the rain
Boom Boom Boom

The ants go marching three by three
Hoorah, hoorah
The ants go marching three by three
Hoorah, hoorah
The ants go marching three by three
The little one stops cause he skinned his knee
And they all go marching
Down to the ground
To get out of the rain
Boom Boom Boom

The ants go marching four by four
Hoorah, hoorah
The ants go marching four by four
Hoorah, hoorah
The ants go marching four by four
The little one stops to shut the door
And they all go marching
Down to the ground
To get out of the rain
Boom Boom Boom
